According to the legend and history mentioned in 16th century chronicles, Pêra-Manca, was the chosen wine to toast the meeting between the indigenous population of Brazil and the navigator Pedro Álvares Cabral upon his arrival in 1500.

The name Pêra-Manca will have its origin, in the grounds, where the vineyards were, to be a kind of ravine, where its loose stones hobbled the ground. Throughout its history and time, it has become one of the best wines in Portugal! Originally it belonged to the José Soares Agricultural House which in the 19th century produced a wine with the famous name. Created in 1987 the Wine Cellar of that year which is seen by many as the beginning of the project to produce with this name the best wine of the harvest. In 1989 it passes to the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation and begins the boldest project that was thought for Pêra-Manca to reach the level it has today.

In 1990 the first official Pêra-Manca was produced and since then over the years, its quality has become legendary and has achieved the status of icon in the world of wines in Portugal. Also proven by the numerous awards, distinctions and national and international mentions.

Aged for 18 months in French oak rafters and 36 months in bottle in the cellars of the Cartuxa Monastery. It has a huge aging potential.

The success achieved in Brazil also made it even better known and today a large part of Pêra-Manca is much sought after by Brazilians.

In our wine cellar there are several harvests of Pêra-Manca, either White or Red.
