Small gestures. Wonderful flavours.
Five steps to prepare an appetiser that brings together the character of Nisa cheese, the sweetness of honey and the crunch of walnuts.
Toast the bread
Preheat the oven to 190 °C. Arrange the eight slices of rustic bread on a baking tray, brush lightly with olive oil and bake for approximately 5 to 7 minutes until golden and crisp. Watch carefully to prevent burning.
Toast the walnuts
Roughly break up the walnut kernels. Place them in a dry frying pan over medium-low heat for approximately 2 to 4 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from the heat when fragrant.
Slice the Nisa cheese
Cut the large Nisa cheese into at least eight thin slices, from one side of the wheel to the other. Adjust the thickness to suit the toast. The cheese does not need to go in the oven.
Assemble the toasts
Remove the bread from the oven and arrange the cheese slices on top while the toast is still warm. The contrast between crisp bread and mature cheese is the foundation of this appetiser.
Finish and serve
Drizzle a little honey over each toast and add the lightly toasted walnuts. Finish with fresh thyme and a pinch of black pepper, if desired. Serve immediately.

The Betesga touch
It's all about balance.
Honey complements the character of Nisa cheese, while walnuts add aroma and texture. Warm bread brings everything together in a small celebration of Portuguese flavours.
Serving suggestion
For fuller flavour, take only the amount of cheese needed out of the fridge a little before serving, while following the storage instructions on the packaging.
Allergen information
This recipe contains milk and tree nuts. The bread may contain gluten and other allergens. Always check the labels of the ingredients used.
