The House of Sandeman was founded in London in 1790 by George Sandeman, a young Scottish native from Perth who decided to invest 300 pounds, borrowed by his father, in setting up a business of marketing Port Wine (Portugal) and Jerez (Spain ).
The innovative capability revealed from the first hour would ultimately lead Sandeman to a leading position in the wine industry, and is today undoubtedly one of the most recognized brands in the world.
Always a pioneer, Sandeman was the first Company to mark a kite with his name on fire. In 1805, the signature GSC (George Sandeman & Co.) was the guarantee of the quality of the wine that marketed. It was also one of the first companies to label and advertise its wines, which in the early 19th century were already exported to several countries in Europe, North and South America, Africa and Asia.
The "Sandeman Don" is one of the first branded images created in the world and the first great icon in the world of wines. It was painted in 1928 by George Massiot Brown and, with his black student cape of Coimbra and the typical sombrero of Jerez, still retains all its mystique and attraction, representing the mystery and sensuality of the Sandeman brand.
In 2002, Sogrape Vinhos joined Sandeman in its universe, reinforcing its status as a major international operator in the wine sector with one more truly global brand in its portfolio.
