MOSCATEL TORNA VIAGEM

Mythical Moscatel of José Maria da Fonseca. The Torna Viagem was discovered more than a century ago. At the time when ships crossed the seas of the World doing all kinds of trade, it was common to take aconsignment of Moscatel from Setúbal. The commanders, who received a commission for what they sold, were not always able to sell them in full. On their return to Portugal, after the trip, in which they underwent diverse climates and significant temperature variations, the barrels were returned to the mother house. When they were opened, the result was almost always a welcome surprise: usually the wine was much better than it was before embarking. The passage through the tropics, on the way to Brazil, Africa or India, when crossing twice the line of the Ecuador, one on the way, the other on the way back, improved the quality of the Moscatel de Setúbal and gave it great complexity. - Producer
