CODFISH ALHEIRA (UNIT)
Alheira horseshoe shaped with codfish, olives, onion and parsley.
Alheira is a typical Portuguese cuisine. According to tradition, this stuff was created by young Christians who secretly continued to keep the customs of their renegade Jewish religion in order to imply to all of society that they were well-integrated, well-meaning Christians. Since Judaism forbids the consumption of pork, some of the supposedly newly converted would have invented a chorizo where discreetly poultry meat replaced traditional pork among Christians. Thus, in the first alheiras were used several meats alternative to the pig, such as turkey, chicken and other birds.
