The second generation of the Niepoort family, at the end of the 19th century, acquired from a German glass factory in Oldenburg about 4000 blown bottles, made of dark green glass, with capacities varying from 8 to 11 liters, which we now call “demijohns”, and so they created the “Garrafeira Niepoort” type. From the distant year of 1931 to the present day, the maturation in “demijohns” sealed with cork stoppers is closely monitored, being an almost “sacred” ritual for the Niepoort and Nogueira families.
Dark amber central color and lighter edge. Spicy and with a beautiful complexity, a consequence of the aging in casks longer than usual. The hazelnuts gently reveal themselves through the increasingly less evident fruit. In the mouth, it has a charming acidity, making it spicy and elegant, with great complexity and balance. Quite spicy, moving from fresh fruit notes to hazelnuts and prunes. Fresh, delicate and very long finish.- Producer
