The recipe was created on behalf of a woman named Maria, who tells the legend, was a young Spanish aristocrat who fled the war to Jamaica. His maid saved a small jewelry box with black pearl earrings and an old manuscript with a liquor recipe. The recipe was rediscovered in 1950 by Dr. Kenneth Leigh Evans, who started producing and marketing the liquor. Its an exotic infusion of vanilla and roasted coffee with a touch of Jamaican rum. Its rich caramel and coffee flavor make Tia Maria an ideal drink to add to cocktails that require coffee notes.
