SHARISH GIN

Started back in October 2013 the SHARISH GIN project is a new Portuguese gin and is produced in the Alentejo by António Cuco and gets its name from the village of MONSARAZ. Used during the Muslim occupation, the Arabic term "sharish", means xara or jara, the very alentejana esteva (Cistus ladanifer). Thus Mont Sharish would mean Mount erected in an impenetrable bramble of stems, originating later Monsaraz. This gin is part of a recipe stuffed with Portuguese ingredients, from Wild Apple of Esmolfe DOP to oranges and lemons from Alentejo, passing through fresh Lúcia - Lime, joining the traditional juniper and coriander seed, complemented with cinnamon, clove and a soft touch of vanilla. All these ingredients are distilled separately in a traditional Portuguese alembic, and then submitted to a final blend. As they say in the Alentejo, "may it please you well!"
